BAT-IG Celebrates Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi’s Emergence as Pioneer President of Institute of Legislative Studies
The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG) celebrates its National Convener, Comrade Bamidele Lateef Atoyebi, on his emergence as the pioneer President of the Institute of Legislative Studies, describing the development as a significant recognition of his longstanding and unwavering commitment to legislative affairs, legislative oversight, public policy advocacy and institutional development.
BAT-IG notes that Atoyebi’s emergence comes at a time when his contributions to legislative engagement and governance accountability continue to attract resounding recognition. His dedication to these ideals, despite not holding an elective public office or being a political appointee, reflects a commitment to public service that transcends formal political positions.
Currently pursuing a PhD in Legislative Oversight at the University of Ilorin, Atoyebi’s academic journey further underscores his commitment to deepening his understanding of legislative institutions, accountability mechanisms and the role of oversight in strengthening democratic governance.
In a related development, the University of Ilorin has approved the hosting of a Legislative Summit, Awards Presentation and Book Launch by the University of Ilorin Social Work Alumni Association (USWAA), marking a significant milestone for the association and a timely recognition of the contributions of its pioneer leadership.
The event, scheduled for December 2026, follows widespread support from members for the proposed dinner, which has now received the approval of the Vice-Chancellor to be organised in a more elaborate and intellectually engaging platform.
At the forefront of the association’s affairs is Bamidele Lateef Atoyebi, who has emerged as President of the newly constituted 10-member Executive Council for the association’s first year.
Atoyebi’s emergence is particularly noteworthy given his longstanding commitment to legislative affairs, legislative oversight, public policy advocacy and the promotion of accountability in governance.
His work in the legislative and policy space reflects a dedication to public service that transcends formal political positions, demonstrating that meaningful contributions to governance and democratic development can be made outside the corridors of elected office.
The forthcoming Legislative Summit and Awards Presentation is therefore considered timely, as it offers an opportunity to recognise hard work, sustained commitment and service. It also reinforces the principle that dedication, perseverance and contributions to society can eventually translate into meaningful recognition.
The development represents a significant step in the institutional growth of the association, which has constituted a 10-member Executive Council comprising representatives from different specialised areas of academia , including the Master’s programme.
The newly constituted council includes Atoyebi Lateef as President; Jimoh Medinat as Vice President; Olaide Ahli as Secretary; Jamiu Abdullahi as Assistant Secretary; Mohammed Abdullahi as Contact and Mobilisation Secretary; Ahmed Azeez as Financial Secretary; Dikko Fatimoh as Treasurer; Adebayo M. Ilyas as Welfare Secretary; Ishowo Abdulateef as Research and Academic Secretary; and Adebola Sherifat as Publicity Secretary.
According to the association’s management, the council was constituted with sincerity and consideration for the collective interest of the association. Members who were not selected have been encouraged to continue contributing their experience, ideas and capacity towards the success of the executive.
The December event is expected to feature the Legislative Summit, Awards Presentation and Book Launch, providing a platform for intellectual engagement, recognition of outstanding contributions and the advancement of legislative and policy discourse.
A preliminary budget of ₦5 million has been drawn up for the event, with ₦3 million already pledged by a member, leaving a balance of ₦2 million to be raised. In a deliberate move to ensure inclusiveness, the management has resolved not to impose financial levies on students. Instead, members are invited to make voluntary donations according to their individual capacities.
The association has consequently called on members to support the initiative financially and otherwise, stressing that the success of the event and the newly constituted Executive Council will depend on the collective commitment of the entire membership.
For Atoyebi, the development represents more than an administrative responsibility. It is an opportunity to consolidate his commitment to legislative engagement, academic advancement and institutional development while leading an association that seeks to promote excellence and meaningful contributions to society.
As preparations commence for the December summit, the recognition of sustained service and the establishment of a pioneering executive signal a new chapter for the University of Ilorin Social Work Alumni Association.
The occasion is expected to celebrate not only individual achievements but also the shared aspirations of members towards building a stronger, more purposeful and intellectually vibrant association.
