US-listed copper explorer and developer Copper Intelligence has acquired the Sampwe copper project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, expanding its portfolio in the Central African Copperbelt.

The project is located about 255 km north of Lubumbashi in Haut-Katanga province, on the Kundelungu Mountain Range, Creamer Media reported on September 15, 2026.

Exploration at Sampwe is currently focused on the Sonta Sandstone, a sedimentary unit within the Kundelungu Formation that is known to host copper mineralisation in the Central African Copperbelt.

Copper Intelligence executive chairperson Andrew Groves said the acquisition supports the company's strategy of expanding its portfolio of high-grade copper assets in the DRC.

“The addition of this globally important asset further enhances the Copper Intelligence portfolio, aligning with company strategy of increasing value and visibility of high-grade copper deposits in the DRC,” Groves said.

The acquisition adds another copper exploration asset to Copper Intelligence's portfolio as the company evaluates the mineralisation potential of the Sampwe project.
