The Mining Marshals of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have established a strategic alliance with the Ankpa Traditional Council in Kogi State to eradicate unauthorized coal extraction and enforce regulatory compliance in the area.

During a formal visit to the palace of the Ejeh of Ankpa, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Yakubu Ahmed, the Commander of the Mining Marshals, ACC John Onoja Attah, urged host communities to engage exclusively with licensed operators and report defaults on community development agreements.

Highlighting the economic potential of the region's mineral wealth, Attah emphasized, "The mineral resources with which Ankpa has been blessed should not become a curse to the people. Following our engagement with the traditional council, anyone who continues to engage in illegal mining will be sanctioned in accordance with the provisions of the law."

Attah also warned that the security unit will no longer tolerate hazardous operations that endanger residents, reiterating their commitment to enforcing the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act to protect host communities and restore order to the sector.

In response, the traditional ruler declared zero tolerance for unauthorized mining operations, stating, "We are committed to supporting safe mining. A well-regulated mining sector will create employment opportunities for our youths while protecting lives and the environment."
