The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced plans to supply gas to the Portland Gas Limited station in Gwagwalada, Abuja. This supply will be facilitated through the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Pipeline project.

According to the NNPCL, the first valve of the AKK pipeline in Gwagwalada is scheduled to open in July 2026. 

This milestone marks the beginning of gas flow to northern industrial zones, addressing national energy deficits and boosting manufacturing.

The Portland Gas Mini LNG/LCNG station is expected to be completed within the next 12 to 16 months. It will serve as a strategic hub for fueling vehicles, powering local industries, and reducing reliance on expensive diesel.

The NNPCL Executive Vice President, Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, highlighted that the project aligns with Nigeria's energy transition goals. He noted that the station’s location is strategic for transport and haulage fleets linking Kogi to northern hubs.

The NNPCL emphasized that the opening of the valve represents more than just a technical milestone, signaling a new era of productivity and economic renewal for the region.

Stakeholders at the workshop emphasized that while Nigeria has the gas reserves and capital appetite, the key to success lies in disciplined execution. This project is seen as a major step toward transforming Nigeria's energy potential into actual performance.
